Today's Word
2 Corinthians 1:3-4
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.”
Reflection
Before asking for comfort, Paul blesses the God of comfort. Before receiving it, he names what kind of One does the comforting. There is a steadiness in that order. Whoever sees the source first is not shaken when comfort is slow.
Father of compassion, God of all comfort — these titles leave no region out. It is not that some comfort comes from Him and some does not; all comfort flows from Him. Even on days when the channels seem blocked, the source does not run dry.
If you needed someone's comfort today, recall where that comfort comes from. When human comfort cannot reach you, the God of all comfort is still in His place. Calling on Him becomes the first step of being comforted.
