Today's Word
Malachi 4:6
“And he will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers. Otherwise, I will come and strike the land with a curse.””
Reflection
The last book of the Old Testament closes on a single promise. The hearts of fathers turned to their children, and the hearts of children to their fathers. Rejoining the severed space between generations sits at the heart of restoration.
To turn implies hearts that had grown distant. Even in the nearest place called family, hearts can face away from one another. This verse admits that rift, yet says turning back toward each other is possible. Restoration happens in both directions, not from one side's effort alone.
If a family member your heart has turned from comes to mind today, become the one who turns back a step first. It need not be full reconciliation. Shifting the direction you had faced away from, even slightly, is where restoration begins.
