Matthew 5:44

But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,
Matthew 5:44 (Berean Standard Bible)

Reflection

To love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you runs against human nature. From a place with every right to hate, He tells you instead to pray. This is possible not by my strength but by the love received.

Praying for an enemy is for the other and, at the same time, for yourself. A heart holding hatred ends up gnawing at itself. Prayer releases you from that gnawing.

If there is someone you simply cannot love, before straining to love, pray one line for them first. Prayer opens the first crack in a hardened heart.
