Proverbs 1:7

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.
Proverbs 1:7 (Berean Standard Bible)

Reflection

Proverbs sets the starting point of knowledge not in cleverness or the volume of information, but in "the fear of the LORD." This fear is not a trembling dread; it is closer to the posture of knowing that I am not the center of all things — the humble gaze of one standing before someone greater than oneself.

No matter how much we know, if we make ourselves the absolute measure, that knowledge easily loses its bearing. What we learn matters, but before whom we learn decides the road. Only when the foundation stands straight do the things built upon it find their place.

When you judge or decide something today, examine where the root of your standard lies. Set down for a moment the sense that you hold every answer, and return to the place of asking again before the One who is greater than you.
