A Prayer for Wisdom and Direction

When a decision looms, the mind splits in many directions. Before exams, careers, and weighty choices, we long to know the right way. Yet a prayer for wisdom is not about receiving an answer handed down, but entrusting your steps to the One who guides the path.

Plan with all your effort, but hold that plan with an open hand. When the outcome turns out differently than expected, leave room for it to be another kind of guidance. The prayer and verses below help carry the weight of the decision.

Prayer

For the Heart Before a Test

God, in this anxious hour I seek You.

Before the outcome, I first entrust my heart to God. Steady me, and help me draw calmly on all I've prepared.

Whatever comes, lead me by the best path within God's will. Amen.

A Longer Prayer Before a Big Decision

God, I stand between one path and another.

The outcome of the choice frightens me. Yet I believe God waits on both roads.

Let me lay down my ambition, my fear, my pride, and discern God's will.

And after the decision, keep me from wavering — let me live it out within God. Amen.

A Prayer While Job-Seeking

God, the season of searching is long.

Impatience, self-doubt, and comparison visit me often.

Yet I trust that God has prepared a place for me. Give me the discernment to recognize it, and keep me steady until then. Amen.
