“He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the LORD.”
Reflection
Proverbs calls finding a wife a blessing, and goes a step further to name it favor received from the LORD. It sees a good spouse not merely as luck or the fruit of effort, but as a gift from above. The simple fact of having someone to share life with is read as grace.
Live alongside someone long enough and their presence starts to feel like a given. The gratitude felt at first meeting is easily buried under familiarity. This verse lifts up again the weight of the gift hidden beneath that familiarity.
Bring to mind the person closest to you today. Whether spouse or family, when you reckon that the one beside you is a favor received, a face you see every day begins to look a little different. Offer a brief thanks for them.
