Today's Word
Proverbs 19:18
“Discipline your son, for in that there is hope; do not be party to his death.”
Reflection
"Discipline your son" can sound cold, but Proverbs attaches a reason right after: there is hope in him. Correction comes not from rejection but from the belief that a child can step onto a better road. No one labors to teach someone they have given up on.
Love is sometimes not enough with gentleness alone. To stay silent while knowing the path where a child will stumble is not kindness but neglect. Genuine correction carries the resolve never to finally let a child go.
Still, discipline and venting are different things. If you must correct someone today, first examine whether hope for them truly lives inside it. Only firmness that springs from love builds a person up.
