Proverbs 23:24
“The father of a righteous man will greatly rejoice, and he who fathers a wise son will delight in him.”
Reflection
That the father of a righteous child rejoices greatly names where a parent's deepest joy comes from. Not a child's success or status, but the sight of a child living rightly. What moves a parent's heart is less what you have become in the world than who you have become.
This joy does not run in one direction only. A child living wisely becomes comfort that reaches back to the parent. The fact that how I live today touches the heart of someone who raised me is both a weighty responsibility and a warm connection.
Consider today whose joy your life might become. It need not be a great achievement; a day spent honestly and wisely can be someone's greatest gladness.
