Psalm 138:3

Reflection

There is a timestamp in this verse. "On the day I called," he was answered. The reply did not arrive long after; it reached him on the very day he cried out.

The shape of that answer is worth noticing. The circumstances were not sorted out in one stroke; instead, strength was added to his soul. Before things grew quiet on the outside, he grew steady on the inside. Becoming someone who can endure was the answer that day.

If you are asking for something today, try not to wait for the answer only as a change in circumstances. The strength that quietly settles into your heart, letting you bear today what you couldn't bear yesterday, may itself be the reply.
