Today's Word

Psalm 143:8

Let me hear Your loving devotion in the morning, for I have put my trust in You. Teach me the way I should walk, for to You I lift up my soul.
Psalm 143:8 (Berean Standard Bible)

Reflection

What the psalmist asks for is a single word heard in the morning. As soon as the day breaks, let me hear, before anything else, of Your loving devotion. It is the prayer of someone who knows that the first sound of the day sets the tone for all of it.

The ground for that request comes at the end: "for I have put my trust in You." He can ask to hear because he is already leaning on God. Trust comes first, and the longing to hear flows out from it.

When you open your eyes tomorrow, what reaches you first? Notifications and worries crowd in easily. Placing one verse in the first moment of the day, that small reordering opens the day differently.
