Today's Word

Psalm 18:2

The LORD is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer. My God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
Psalm 18:2 (Berean Standard Bible)

Reflection

David can't settle on one word for God — rock, fortress, deliverer. He pours the same trust into several vessels. A rock is a foundation that does not shift, a fortress is a wall that surrounds and shields, a deliverer is the hand that pulls you from where you've collapsed.

What's striking is that this confession came not on a calm day but on the day he was rescued from all his enemies. Only after passing through the crisis did he see clearly what he had been leaning on. Hardship sometimes reveals the true identity of our refuge.

Consider today what you've made your rock. Build a house on what shifts, and you'll shift with it. Take shelter in the One who does not move, and only then do your feet find solid ground.
