Psalm 25:1

To You, O LORD, I lift up my soul;
Psalm 25:1 (Berean Standard Bible)

Reflection

To "lift up the soul" means raising the deepest part of yourself. Not just hands or eyes, but the whole of you turned in one direction. Where we keep looking often reveals where our heart rests — what you gaze upward at shows what you're leaning on.

David goes on to speak of enemies and shame, so this lifting is no leisure born of calm. It is a choice made in the middle of being shaken, deliberately moving his gaze upward. When the heart keeps sinking, it is the act of consciously raising your head.

If today your heart is pulled only toward what weighs it down, take your eyes off that weight for a moment. The brief act of lifting your deepest place to One can turn the direction of a whole day.
