Psalm 37:23-24

The steps of a man are ordered by the LORD who takes delight in his journey. Though he falls, he will not be overwhelmed, for the LORD is holding his hand.
Psalm 37:23-24 (Berean Standard Bible)

Reflection

To say God orders our steps is not only that each step was laid out in advance. It is closer to companionship — He delights in the very road a person walks and goes alongside, not watching from a distance but keeping pace.

So the verse does not claim we never fall. It plainly says "though he stumble." Falling happens. The reason we are not utterly cast down is that in that moment a hand comes to hold us — quicker to catch than we are to drop.

Recall a place where you wavered today. That stumble may not be a sign you left the road, but another name for the experience of being held. Even where you fell, the hand was there.
