Today's Word
Psalm 4:8
“I will lie down and sleep in peace, for You alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety.”
Reflection
Some nights sleep won't come. An unsolved problem, tomorrow's looming task, a single remark that snagged your heart — all of it grows larger in the dark. David knew nights like these. And still he writes, "I will lie down and sleep in peace."
He can sleep not because his circumstances are safe, but because the One who makes him dwell in safety is "the LORD alone." He moves the source of peace from outside to within, from his situation to a single Person. If every variable must be settled before you close your eyes, sleep is postponed forever.
If you find yourself staring at the ceiling tonight, loosen — one finger at a time — the grip that says you must hold it all. Another keeps you safe, so even falling asleep becomes a form of trust.
