“So teach us to number our days, that we may present a heart of wisdom.”
Reflection
"Teach us to number our days." To number your days is to know that time is limited. When you're aware there is an end, your manner toward today changes.
The purpose of numbering is to "present a heart of wisdom." Knowing time's finitude is itself the beginning of wisdom. Living as if infinitely much remains leads you to postpone what matters most.
On a day you let the hours slip by carelessly, recall that the days remaining are not infinite. To be mindful of the end is not fear but the wisdom that makes you use today rightly.
