Today's Word
2 Timothy 1:7
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control.”
Reflection
A spirit of fear, it says, is not what God gave. Before you reproach yourself that fear is a lack of faith, it first points out that fear was never what you received.
What was given instead is power, love, and self-control. Three things to fill the place of fear are clear. Not a vague erasing of fear, but a picture of being filled with something else.
On a day you shrink back, rather than fighting the fear, recall what you've already received. Power, love, and self-control are not squeezed out but given. In the place of drawing on what's received, fear withdraws.
