Habakkuk 3:17-18

Though the fig tree does not bud and no fruit is on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though the sheep are cut off from the fold and no cattle are in the stalls, yet I will exult in the LORD; I will rejoice in the God of my salvation!
Habakkuk 3:17-18 (Berean Standard Bible)

Reflection

From a place with no fruit on fig or vine, the poet writes, "yet I will rejoice." It is the declaration that the ground of joy is not the harvest. There is a joy that doesn't dry up even where abundance is gone.

The source of joy is clear: "in the LORD," "in the God of my salvation." Not what is possessed but the One present is the ground of joy. So even when circumstance collapses, joy does not.

On a day not a single visible fruit remains, don't strain to find joy in the circumstance. Recall where a joy unrelated to fruit is rooted.
