Today's Word
Psalm 73:26
“My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”
Reflection
"My flesh and my heart may fail." The psalmist doesn't deny his weakness. He admits both body and heart can collapse. Yet the sentence doesn't end there; it turns with a "but."
Set against the failing self is "the strength of my heart" and "my portion forever." Even when all within wears out, the firm rock outside does not. The comfort is that the object of trust is not myself.
On a day your strength gives out and you collapse, don't hide that weakness. See together what fails and what does not. Though I wear out, the rock remains.
