Today's Word
Isaiah 43:2
“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you go through the rivers, they will not overwhelm you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be scorched; the flames will not set you ablaze.”
Reflection
This promise doesn't say it will dry up the waters or put out the fire. Passing through waters, crossing rivers, walking through fire — these remain. It only promises presence in the very midst of them.
It is not exemption from hardship but the guarantee of company. The reason you are not overwhelmed or scorched is not that water and fire are weak, but that the One who is with you is strong.
If the water you pass through is deep, you don't have to deny its depth. Only hold onto this: you are not crossing alone. A river crossed together is a different river, though it is the same one.
