Today's Word
John 16:33
“I have told you these things so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take courage; I have overcome the world!””
Reflection
Jesus did not promise there would be no trouble. He plainly said you would have trouble in the world. Faith is not an exemption from hardship. And yet the call to take courage follows.
The ground of that courage is not your circumstance but a victory already accomplished. "I have overcome the world" is past tense. You live today from a place where the outcome of the battle is already settled.
When the trouble before you looks like the final scene, remember it is not the ending of the whole story. The fact that you are within the One who has overcome lifts your head even in the middle of trouble.
