Today's Word
John 14:27
“Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled; do not be afraid.”
Reflection
Jesus insists that the peace He gives is unlike what the world gives. The world's peace arrives when conditions are met — when problems resolve and circumstances improve, the heart finally settles.
But the peace spoken of here is separate from circumstance. It is not the calm of a stilled storm, but the stillness found within the storm because of the One who is present. That is why the call not to let your heart be troubled or afraid follows.
Consider whether you've been seeking peace in outer conditions. If you believe you can only rest once everything is in order, rest is forever deferred. Today's peace comes from the One who is beside you today.
