Today's Word
John 13:34
“A new commandment I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you also must love one another.”
Reflection
To the command "love one another" a standard is attached: "as I have loved you." It draws the measure of love not from the size of my heart but from the love received.
He calls it a "new commandment." To love seems nothing new, but its standard is new. Not my mood or the other's worthiness, but the love received first, becomes the measure.
If there is someone you can't find the heart to love, rather than straining to draw love from within, recall the love received. The new commandment is not love you manufacture but love you let flow on.
