Psalm 34:18
“The LORD is near to the brokenhearted; He saves the contrite in spirit.”
Reflection
It is unexpected that the ones God draws near to are the brokenhearted. He comes close not to the strong and whole but to the shattered. He does not turn away from a contrite spirit.
Sorrow often feels like a sign of distance from God. But this verse says the opposite. The very place where the heart is broken may be the nearest place of all.
If your heart is collapsing today, you don't have to hide it in shame. Light enters through the broken places. The One who is near does not avoid a wounded heart.
