Today's Word
Psalm 51:10
“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.”
Reflection
David doesn't ask for his fault to be covered. He asks, "Create in me a clean heart." Not mere repair but a plea to be made anew. The end of repentance is not self-reproach but a fresh start.
The verb "create" is used for making from nothing. It is not polishing the heart by my effort, but receiving a new heart. The agent of restoration is not me but the One who creates.
If you keep stumbling in the same place, before resolving more firmly, ask for a new heart. A right spirit is not something squeezed out but something received anew.
